Founded in 1973, VDI Technologiezentrum GmbH (VDI-TZ) is a subsidiary of VDI (“Verein Deutscher Ingenieure” = Association of German Engineers) located in Düsseldorf, Germany. Today, it has about 160 employees, mainly natural scientists, engineers, social and political scientists and economists.
The core activity of VDI-TZ is to operate as an executive funding agency (“Projektträger”) of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), managing national funding programmes in the thematic areas of Optical Technologies, Nanotechnologies, Plasma technology, Materials Research, Security Research and Electronics. In the context of Nanotechnologies, VDI-TZ is responsible for the Nanomedicine related German funding programs “NanoforLife - Nanotechnologies for Health Care” and its successors, “Bioactive Implants” and “MoBiTech -Technologies for Molecular Imaging”.
The VDI Technologiezentrum GmbH has a vast experience in managing and supporting EU-activities. It hosts two National Contact Points (Nanotechnology and Security Research). Apart from this, VDI-TZ is actively involved in 12 European projects.
